ENT & Maxillofacial Registrar - 2027 Training Year at Health New Zealand - Te Whatu Ora Te Matau a Māui Hawke's Bay, Hawkes Bay

About the Role

We are seeking an Ear Nose & Throat (ENT) & Maxillofacial Registrar to join our Otolaryngology & Maxillofacial department here at Hawke's Bay Fallen Soldiers Memorial Hospital. The 2027 training year commences on 1 February, and mid-year starts on 2 August.

As a Registrar, you will manage the day-to-day care of inpatients under the supervision of the designated consultant. You will also be involved in assessing and treating patients with acute surgical needs, including those referred for admission on acute days, as well as patients previously cared for by the team who are accepted for re-admission. Although this position is not accredited for formal training, we are dedicated to providing hands-on learning experiences that are on par with or exceed those of accredited roles, ensuring youre well-prepared for future formal training opportunities.
 

About the Team/Service/ Location

By joining our team, youll work alongside 2 Maxillofacial Consultants, 5 ENT Consultants, and a dedicated team of 6 clinic specialty nurses, 2 ENT Registrars and 1 House Officer.

Our well-equipped service delivers a broad scope of practice across Otolaryngology and the full scope of Maxillofacial Surgery. This includes Otology, Rhinology, and Head & Neck surgery, with comprehensive exposure to head and neck oncology, including cutaneous malignancy, as well as the management of acquired and congenital facial deformities.

The team works closely together to provide high-quality patient care within a supportive and engaging training environment.

Hawkes Bay Fallen Soldiers Memorial Hospital is the principal acute hospital and specialist service provider, supported by smaller satellite facilities in Central Hawkes Bay, Napier, and Wairoa.

Located in Hastings, Hawkes Bay Hospital is a 400 bed secondary level public hospital delivering both acute and elective care across a broad range of medical and surgical specialties, including paediatrics and obstetrics & gynaecology. We are supported by a strong regional ICU and flight team with tertiary support for cardiac intervention, cardiothoracic surgery, plastics and neurosurgery from Wellington, ensuring comprehensive care.

About you

  • Youre a Resident Medical Officer (RMO) PGY3 or above
  • Ideally dually qualified but not essential
  • You are registered or eligible for general registration, with the Medical Council of New Zealand
