Clinical Psychologist MICAMHS at Health New Zealand - Te Whatu Ora Lakes, Bay of Plenty

About the Role

Deliver specialist psychological assessment, formulation, and therapeutic intervention for tamariki and their whānau within a multidisciplinary child mental health service. Working within MICAMHS Child Team at Te Waka Aorangi, you will support children experiencing a wide range of presentations including trauma, attachment challenges, mood and anxiety disorders, neurodevelopmental conditions, and risk related behaviours. This role offers the opportunity to apply advanced clinical skills while contributing to coordinated care alongside health, education, and community partners.

About the Team/Service/Location

The MICAMHS Team is based at Te Waka Aorangi Child Wellness Centre at Tauranga Hospital and forms part of a wider Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service. The multidisciplinary team are made up of amazing psychologists, nurses, social workers, occupational therapists, and psychiatrists working collaboratively to support children and their whānau. The service is co-located with Paediatrics, Child Development Service, and the Child Health Integrated Response Pathway, enabling strong integrated care. You will also be connected to the wider psychology community across Tauranga and Whakatāne, with access to supervision, journal clubs, and ongoing professional development. The team is committed to evidence-based practice and continuous learning.

About You

You will be an experienced Clinical Psychologist with strong skills in assessment, formulation, and intervention for children and their whānau. You bring a thoughtful and analytical approach to complex presentations, alongside the ability to build strong therapeutic relationships. You work effectively within multidisciplinary teams and engage confidently with schools, community services, and whānau to support coordinated care. Your practice reflects a commitment to trauma informed approaches, neurodiversity, and culturally responsive care.

What you will bring:

  • Registration as a Clinical Psychologist with the New Zealand Psychologists Board and a current Annual Practicing Certificate
  • Postgraduate qualification in Clinical Psychology and relevant further training
  • Experience in assessment and treatment of children with a range of mental health, trauma, attachment, and neurodevelopmental presentations
  • Experience conducting cognitive and neurodevelopmental assessments including intellectual disability, autism, and ADHD
  • Strong formulation and treatment planning capability across complex presentations
  • Experience in more than one therapeutic model such as CBT, ACT, EMDR, play based therapies, or culturally informed approaches
  • Competence in trauma informed practice and working with neurodivergence
  • Demonstrated commitment to Te Tiriti or Waitangi and equitable health outcomes
