General Medicine Physician at Health New Zealand - Te Whatu Ora Lakes, Bay of Plenty

About the Role

We are looking to employ a General Physician to join our Department of Medicine, currently providing General Internal Medicine inpatient and outpatient services, plus a range of sub-specialty services to a population of approximately 260,000

This position is based at Tauranga Hospital, a 359 bed Level 2 hospital. This is predominantly an inpatient role but will include some elective work. There is the opportunity to also undertake planned care in your subspecialist area of practice, including at Whakatane Hospital which is a smaller level 2 hospital an hour south of Tauranga.

Tauranga Hospital runs a busy acute general medical service with support from resident specialists in Cardiology, Respiratory, Gastroenterology, Endocrinology, Rheumatology, Infectious Diseases, Geriatrics, Oncology, Haematology and Renal services. General Physicians are well supported to provide comprehensive care.

About the Team/Service/ Location

The successful candidate will join a department of more than twenty other physicians who share General Medical responsibilities across teams. They will lead an inpatient team which includes a registrar and a house officer on each team. The role includes participation in acute medical assessment, admissions and an on-call roster. We have a ward-based model of inpatient care alongside an Acute Assessment and Planning unit. The department has recently implemented significant changes in the model of care and there is a strong desire to keep improving our service for both our patients and colleagues. There are teaching opportunities across undergraduate (years 4-6) and postgraduate (basic and advanced trainees) medicine.

About you

Candidates with sup-speciality interests in any speciality are welcome and due to the flexible nature of the vacancy; trainees completing training within the next six months are also welcome to apply.

Applicants must hold or be eligible for, vocational registrars with the NZ Medical Council.
