About the Role

This advanced clinical role provides specialist assessment, clinical management advice, surveillance recommendations, and coordinated care for individuals and families at increased risk of cancer due to inherited gastrointestinal cancer syndromes.
You will offer ongoing followup and clinical oversight for highrisk patients and whānau.

About the Team/Service

Te Toka Tumai is part of Aotearoas health transformation under Pae Ora / Healthy Futures, with a focus on equity, integration, and peoplecentred care.

The New Zealand Familial Gastrointestinal Cancer Service (NZFGCS) is a national service. We provide assessment, diagnosis, management advice, and care for individuals and families with a familial predisposition to gastrointestinal cancers.

The national office is based in Auckland (hosted by Te Toka Tumai), with regional offices in Wellington and Christchurch.

Your work will contribute directly to the accurate assessment and effective management of patients referred to NZFGCS.

About you

You will have:

  • A clinically based health degree
  • Significant clinical experience working with patients
  • A genuine interest in supporting individuals and families affected by inherited cancer syndromes
  • Confidence working with scientific and clinical data
  • (Optional) A Masters degree in a relevant clinical area an advantage, not a requirement

In This Role You Will:

  • Apply clinical knowledge of gastroenterology, pathology, oncology, investigations, and surgical pathways to assess patient and family histories for hereditary cancer syndromes
  • Conduct clinic appointments (facetoface or phone) to review family history, discuss risk, and provide management and surveillance advice
  • Identify necessary investigations and provide interim and final surveillance recommendations in line with guidelines or in consultation with senior staff
  • Coordinate endoscopy surveillance for individuals in our colonoscopy reminder programme
  • Demonstrate understanding of the ethical and psychosocial considerations related to genetic disorders and cancer risk
  • If experienced, lead your own clinics - otherwise, full training and support will be provided
