  • Support the Fuel Response effort through high-quality analysis
  • Contribute to work of national importance in a fast-paced and collaborative environment
  • Fixed-term or secondment positions, based in Wellington Central

MBIE is leading the All of Government’s response to fuel security, working closely with Ministers, agencies, and industry to support secure and reliable fuel supply for New Zealand.  Our work includes monitoring supply and market conditions, identifying and managing risks, and providing timely analysis and advice to inform decision-making. The work is fast-paced and collaborative, with a strong focus on ensuring continuity of supply while supporting longer-term system resilience.

Tēnei tūranga - About the Role:

We’re looking for experienced Senior Insights Analysts with a strong background in economics and economic analysis to join the team.

You will be a natural relationship manager with proven analytical and/or evaluation skills, with the ability to translate complex data into compelling narratives.  This experience will be complemented by well-developed communication skills and an appreciation for the big picture.

You will be able to apply economic frameworks and methods of analysis to identify problems, analyse and synthesise the issues, and identify and assess strategies to advance knowledge and understanding. Working as part of a fast‑paced, highly collaborative team, you will contribute to the development and delivery of regular fuel data and analysis products, respond to emerging issues, and help ensure government has a robust evidence base to support informed decisions.

This work sits at the centre of MBIE’s system leadership role, providing timely, high-quality analysis and insights to Ministers and senior decision-makers on fuel supply, market dynamics, and emerging risks.

This is a unique opportunity to apply your expertise in a real‑world, high‑impact environment, operating under time pressure and with strong visibility across MBIE and the wider public sector.

We are interested in expressions of interest from motivated analysts who are comfortable working with ambiguity, enjoy team-based problem solving, and want to contribute their skills to work that has immediate national importance.
