About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and passionate Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) to join our Oncology team.

This is a senior nursing role focused on clinical leadership, service development, and specialist oncology care, where you will provide advanced nursing expertise while supporting and developing others in the team.

In this role, you will:

Provide advanced, evidence-based oncology nursing care to optimise patient outcomes

Lead care coordination initiatives and contribute to service development

Support and educate nursing staff and wider multidisciplinary teams

Develop and implement clinical pathways, protocols, and standards of care

Champion equity by embedding Te Tiriti o Waitangi principles into practice

Lead quality improvement, audit, and research initiatives within the service

You will play a key role in ensuring patients and whānau receive coordinated, culturally responsive, and high-quality care throughout their cancer journey.

About the Team/Service/ Location

Our Oncology team at Gisborne Hospital provides essential cancer care to the Tairāwhiti community, delivering treatment and support to patients and their whānau throughout their cancer journey. The service is focused on providing safe, high-quality, and culturally responsive care, working closely with multidisciplinary teams and community providers to ensure continuity and coordination of care.

Youll join a supportive and collaborative team environment where ongoing learning, professional development, and sharing specialist knowledge are encouraged. The team plays a key role in education, service improvement, and developing best practice models of care within oncology.

About you

You will be a highly skilled and motivated Registered Nurse with a strong clinical background and a commitment to excellence in oncology care.

You will have:

Current NZ Annual Practising Certificate

A postgraduate qualification (or working towards)

At least 5 years recent clinical experience in an acute or primary care setting

Proven ability to provide advanced clinical practice and leadership

Strong communication, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills

Commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and improving equity for Māori

Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team

Ideally, you will also bring oncology experience or a strong interest in developing within this specialty.
