About the Role

Starship Child Health is looking for a Senior Kaiwhakaora Ngangahau Occupational Therapist with a passion for working with tamariki and whanau, to join our Starship Rehabilitation Service Occupational Therapy team. Your passion for paediatrics and experience applying clinical knowledge is welcomed in providing premium healthcare services to our tamariki and youth. We have a part-time role (32 hours/week) opportunity across the Starship hospital setting, predominantly on the wards and some outpatient clinics.

  • Maintain a clinical caseload applying clinical knowledge and skills to assess, plan, implement and evaluate patients/clients health needs
  • Work in partnership with tamariki, rangatahi, whanau and the interdisciplinary team to achieve best outcomes.
  • Remain focused in the pursuit of Māori health gain as well as achieving equitable health outcomes for Māori
  • Apply clinical knowledge, clinical reasoning and expertise while modelling evidence- based practice
  • Facilitate effective discharge planning and/or referral processes to health care providers/support agencies to meet identified health needs
  • Demonstrate culturally safe practice that encompasses a diverse range of beliefs, values and practices
  • Collaborate with the multi-disciplinary team, working closely together to ensure best outcomes for our patient care needs

About the Team/Service/ Location

  • Our team of Occupational therapists excel in a fast-paced, challenging environment where evidence-based practice, strengths in interdisciplinary practice, clinical reasoning, and decision-making skills are highly valued. The team provides a service to all inpatient areas in Starship, Child Health and selected outpatient areas.
  • We provide support and orientation to your practice contexts with robust opportunities for critical reflection on practice, including peer review and professional supervision, as well as on the job training, and development opportunities.

About you

As the ideal person for this role, you will have the following skills and attributes:

  • NZ registration as an Kaiwhakaora Ngangahau Occupational Therapist with current Annual Practicing Certificate
  • 4+ years of post-graduate clinical work experience including minimum 2 years full-time experience within the area of specialty
  • Relevant clinical post-graduate certificate/diploma (desirable)
  • Proven experience working in clinical leadership (desirable)
  • Sound knowledge and skills in applying whakaora ngangahau occupational therapy knowledge, skills and values, as well as the ability to communicate this practice within a hospital setting.
  • Innovative and able to communicate with others in complex decision making.
  • Motivated to develop own as well as the teams professional practice and able to engage alongside others in the mahi required to achieve this.
  • Experience in working in a hospital setting is desirable
  • Experience working with children is desirable
  • Passion for improving outcomes for tamariki and whanau
  • Sound clinical reasoning skills and use of evidence informed practice
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a range of professional groups in in interdisciplinary setting
  • Effective time management, prioritisation and organisation skills
  • Drive, energy and initiative with excellent communication and interpersonal skills
