Senior Advisor Redress Programme at Crown Response Office, Wellington - Wairarapa

Mō tēnei tūranga mahi | About this role

The Crown Response Office (CRO), established in September 2024, coordinates and leads the Crown's response to the Abuse in Care Royal Commission of Inquiry. Sitting within Te Kawa Mataaho Public Service Commission, the Office plays a strategic and coordinating role to ensure the Crown is joined up, focused on the right priorities, and delivering on its commitments to survivors.

We currently have two fixed term or secondment opportunities to the end of January 2027 for two experienced Senior Advisors to join the Redress Programme, bringing strong operational policy experience, alongside programme and implementation delivery experience. Reporting to the Manager Redress Programme, these roles will play a key part in supporting the design and delivery of the Crown's redress system for survivors of abuse in care.

Working as part of a small, high-performing team, you will lead and deliver pieces of complex, cross-agency work. This will include developing operational policy, tools and guidance, and supporting the implementation of Cabinet decisions across the redress system.

What you'll be doing

  • Leading workstreams or projects within the Redress Programme, delivering end‑to‑end pieces of work.
  • Developing high‑quality operational policy, tools, frameworks, and implementation guidance to support delivery agencies.
  • Providing clear, well‑reasoned advice to senior leaders, translating complex policy or legal concepts into practical, implementable outputs.
  • Working collaboratively across agencies to support joined‑up and aligned delivery.
  • Building trusted relationships with stakeholders, including government agencies, partners, and where appropriate, survivor and community representatives.
  • Using insights, feedback, and data to support continuous improvement of the redress system.
  • Identifying and managing risks, and contributing to governance reporting and assurance processes.
  • Managing competing priorities effectively in a fast-paced and evolving environment.

What you'll bring

  • Proven experience as a Senior Advisor, or in a comparable role within the public sector.
  • Demonstrated experience developing and delivering operational policy in a public sector environment.
  • Experience leading and delivering complex work programmes, ideally across policy implementation, programme, or delivery contexts.
  • Strong analytical and writing skills, with the ability to translate complexity into clear, practical outputs.
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement skills and the ability to build trusted relationships across a range of audiences.
  • Sound judgement and the ability to work with autonomy and pace in a complex operating environment.
  • Experience working in complex, sensitive, or high‑profile programmes, or the ability to quickly build understanding in these environments.
  • An understanding of trauma‑informed practice or experience working with vulnerable communities is an advantage, but not essential.
  • Understanding of te ao Māori, tikanga and Te Tiriti o Waitangi, or a commitment to building capability in these areas.
  • A commitment to inclusive, respectful and collaborative ways of working.

Why join us?

You'll be part of a dedicated team working on a programme that matters. The Crown Response Office is a time‑bound organisation with a clear mandate to support the Crown to deliver meaningful redress and system change for survivors of abuse in care.
