About the Role

We are seeking a Dental Registrar to join our Dental service here at Hawke's Bay Fallen Soldiers Memorial Hospital.
The 2027 training year commences on 1 February 2027.

This role offers exposure to a broad spectrum of hospital dentistry, including:

• Special needs dentistry
• Paediatric dentistry
• Oral surgery
• Dental trauma

You will have opportunities to work closely with the Maxillofacial Service, both locally and with Hutt Hospital, and to perform dental procedures under general anaesthesia and nitrous oxide sedation.

The range of clinical experiences and strong multidisciplinary support make this role an excellent foundation for future hospital dentistry, general dental practice, or specialist training. We actively support and encourage further education, including preparation for the Primary Examinations through the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons (RACDS).

 

About the Team/Service/ Location

You would join a team consisting of 1 Dental Registrar, 1 Dental House Officer, 4 Senior Dentists, and a Dental Public Health Specialist, and will contribute to the hospitals out-of-hours on-call service as part of a 1:4 roster, delivering acute dental and maxillofacial care.

The Hospital Dental Service delivers care across four sites in Hastings, Napier, and Wairoa, with a clinical focus on medically compromised patients, tamariki (children), and people with complex or special needs. Services are provided in both outpatient and theatre settings, offering varied and rewarding clinical exposure.

You will attend maxillofacial theatres and outpatient clinics and be supported by a regional maxillofacial service. The team also works closely with the Community Oral Health Service, including shared clinics and combined professional development.

Hawkes Bay Fallen Soldiers Memorial Hospital is the principal acute hospital and specialist service provider, supported by smaller satellite facilities in Central Hawkes Bay, Napier, and Wairoa.

Located in Hastings, Hawkes Bay Hospital is a 400bed secondarylevel public hospital delivering both acute and elective care across a broad range of medical and surgical specialties, including paediatrics and obstetrics & gynaecology. While cardiothoracic and neurosurgical services are not provided on site, the hospital is well supported by a strong regional ICU team.

About you

• You are a Dentist with at least one year of experience
• Prior Dental House Officer in a hospital setting is preferable but not essential

• You are registered, or eligible for registration, with the Dental Council of New Zealand
