About the Role

As a Psychologist Psychosocial Cancer Support, you will provide specialist psychological and counselling support to patients with cancer and their whānau, helping them navigate the emotional and psychological impact of diagnosis, treatment and recovery.

You will undertake comprehensive psychosocial assessments, deliver evidence based therapeutic interventions, and work closely with the multidisciplinary cancer care team to support holistic, patient centred care. This includes collaborating with clinical nurse specialists, cancer coordinators and wider oncology services to address barriers to care and improve equitable access to support.

The role also involves contributing to multidisciplinary reviews, supporting service development, participating in quality improvement and research activities, and strengthening connections with community agencies and support services.

About the Team/Service/ Location

You will be part of the Oncology Service at Hawkes Bay Fallen Soldier Memorial Hospital, working across hospital and community satellite sites. You will collaborate closely with the cancer support team, Faster Cancer Treatment (FCT) programme, palliative care, and regional cancer services to support a coordinated, patient and whanau centred approach to care.

About you

You are a compassionate and skilled psychologist who is comfortable working in complex clinical environments and supporting people through challenging life experiences. You will have:

• A Masters Degree in Psychology
• Current registration as a Clinical, Counselling or Registered Psychologist with a valid Annual Practising Certificate
• Postgraduate experience working with physical health populations
• Experience delivering psychological therapies and counselling interventions
• Strong communication and relationshipbuilding skills
• Ability to work both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
• High level of organisation, clinical reasoning and professionalism
• Commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi, equity and culturally safe practice
• A current driver licence

Desired:

• Experience in oncology or palliative care
• Experience providing clinical supervision
• Familiarity with hospital systems and processes
