About the Role

The Renal Service at Te Toka Tumai Auckland provides a comprehensive range of renal care, including acute and critical care paediatric dialysis, satellite dialysis, and home-based therapies for patients across our region. Our service operates four dialysis units, and the Educator role works across all sites to meet service needs.

We are seeking a skilled and experienced Renal Physiologist who role models excellent teamwork and clinical practice to join our service as a Haemodialysis Educator. This role provides clinical coaching, education/teaching, and upskilling for Renal Physiology and Nursing staff within the Renal Dialysis Service. The role utilises the principles of evidence-based practice and adult learning and works in partnership with the Nurse Educator to meet the learning needs of staff.

About the Team / Service / Location

Renal medicine (nephrology) is the specialty focused on diagnosing and treating kidney diseases. The kidneys filter waste and excess fluid from the blood to produce urine.

Nephrology includes care for both acute and chronic kidney conditions such as acute kidney injury, chronic kidney disease, haematuria, proteinuria, kidney stones, and hypertension.

Treatment may include medication, dialysis, or kidney transplantation depending on disease severity. In some cases, supportive care is provided when active treatment is not appropriate.

The Auckland Renal Service provides comprehensive care across the region, including dialysis and transplant services for the northern North Island.

About You

• Lead haemodialysis clinical training and onboarding for the Te Toka Tumai Renal Service in conjunction with the Nurse Educator
• Support staff to gain the necessary clinical knowledge and skills to undertake confident and effective adult and paediatric haemodialysis, ensuring patient safety and quality care delivery
• Provide support and outreach for Paediatric Haemodialysis in Starship
• Manage credentialling and onboarding processes for new staff in partnership with the Nurse Educator
• Plan, implement, and evaluate in-house dialysis training and in-service programmes for Renal Physiologists and Registered Nurses
• Ensure dialysis competency standards are maintained, reviewed, and documented, including regular audits
• Act as a clinical resource for technical aspects of haemodialysis and allied therapies, including new technologies
• Support and manage student placements for Renal Physiology students at Te Toka Tumai

We welcome your application if you have:

• A commitment to achieving equitable outcomes for Māori
• Renal Physiology qualification approved by the New Zealand and Australia Society of Renal Dialysis Practice (NZASRDP)
• CPRB registration, APC, and NZASRDP membership
• 6+ years experience as a Renal Physiologist
• Exceptional teamwork and communication skills
• Excellent self-management and organisational skills

And are able to:

• Demonstrate comprehensive knowledge of renal technology
• Assist with ongoing technical quality assurance and quality control, and resolve technical issues in a timely manner
• Facilitate and deliver clinical education and coaching for the renal workforce
• Demonstrate initiative and flexibility
