Solution Architect, Technology & Data at Government Communications Security Bureau, Wellington

Mō tēnei tūranga mahi | About this role

Join our diverse and talented people and work at the heart of national security, providing essential intelligence to the NZ Government to protect New Zealand and its people.

Mō te tūranga mahi – about the role

We are seeking Solution Architects to join our Technology & Data team and deliver secure, scalable solutions that keep GCSB, NZSIS and the wider intelligence community interoperable and sharing information.

What you will do:

  • Offer expert advice and design guidance that brings every project into line with our technology roadmap, architectural standards and intelligence‑community policies.
  • Partner with stakeholders to create and continuously refine domain‑specific roadmaps that keep our capabilities ahead of the curve.
  • Design, develop and supervise robust, fit‑for‑purpose architectures that protect classified information and ensure only authorised users gain access.
  • Directly support our mission to safeguard national security and strengthen the Five Eyes partnership by delivering resilient, compliant, future‑proof solutions.

If you have experience in the following, we want to hear from you!

  • Infrastructure: If you have a track record designing, deploying and maintaining core platforms—storage arrays, fabrics, backup systems, servers, data domains, client devices, printers, etc.—let us know.
  • Mission: If you’ve built or managed specialised systems for processing, distribution, targeting, exploration/interaction or regulatory functions (especially unique to intelligence environments), this role is for you.
  • Identity & Access Management (IDAM): If you’ve defined policies, processes and technologies that create, maintain and control digital identities and control access to resources, we’d love to hear about it.

Ko wai koe – about you

We are looking for a seasoned IT professional who loves turning big, complex challenges into smart, cost‑effective solutions. You will think strategically, collaborate confidently with stakeholders, and thrive in our dynamic, high‑security environment.

What you’ll bring to the team:

  • 10 + years of senior IT engineering experience, with at least 3 years spent shaping solutions as an architect.
  • A proven knack for turning big ideas into reality—delivering large‑scale projects (>$500 K) that balance performance, cost and quality.
  • A talent for plotting the long‑term path: you can craft clear 3‑ to 5‑year technology road‑maps and guide ICT development in secure, multi‑network settings (top‑secret experience is a plus).
  • Be an exceptional communicator and relationship builder—whether negotiating with stakeholders or collaborating with partners, you make complex topics clear and inspire confidence.

If you’re ready to drive the next wave of secure, high‑impact solutions, apply today and make a real difference to New Zealand’s intelligence capability!

The expected appointing range for this position is: $142,093 - $151,566.
