We are seeking an experience and values driven Operations Manager to join our team and lead the operational performance of our Gastroenterology and Stroke services across North Shore and Waitakere Hospitals.

About the Role

This is a significant leadership opportunity for an experienced healthcare manager who thrives in a fast-paced environment and enjoys partnering with clinical leaders to achieve outstanding service outcomes.

Reporting to the General Manager, Specialty Medicine and Health of Older People, you will provide operational leadership for Gastroenterology and Stroke Services, working in close partnership with Clinical Directors, Senior Nurses and multidisciplinary teams to ensure safe, effective and sustainable service delivery.

You will lead all aspects of operational performance including service delivery, workforce planning, financial management, quality improvement, access to care and strategic service development. Success in this role requires an individual who can translate data and insights into action, bring people together around a shared purpose, and confidently navigate complex operational challenges.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the day-to-day operational performance of Gastroenterology and Stroke Services across both hospital campuses.
• Partner with Clinical Directors, nursing and administration leaders to deliver high-quality, patient-focused and equitable healthcare services.
• Drive achievement of key service targets, performance indicators and access measures.
• Lead service planning, improvement initiatives and strategic projects that improve patient outcomes and service sustainability.
• Manage workforce, financial and physical resources to optimise performance and value.
• Use operational and clinical data to identify opportunities, manage risks and support informed decision-making.
• Foster a high-performing culture built on accountability, collaboration, innovation and continuous improvement.
• Build strong relationships across Health NZ and with external stakeholders to support service delivery and patient outcomes.

About You

You are an experienced operational leader who combines strategic thinking with strong execution. You are comfortable working in complex healthcare environments and have a proven ability to lead through influence, partnership and sound judgement.

You will bring:

• Significant management experience in a healthcare environment.
• A track record of delivering operational, workforce and financial performance.
• Experience leading service improvement, change and transformation initiatives.
• Strong analytical capability and confidence using data to drive decisions and results.
• Outstanding relationship-building skills and the ability to work effectively with clinical and non-clinical leaders.
• Excellent communication skills, including the ability to prepare business cases and reports for senior leaders.
• A commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi, equity and improving outcomes for Māori and Pacific communities.
