About the Role

As the Patient Safety and Quality Clinical Event Coordinator, you will work in partnership with Group Leadership Teams and Patient Safety & Quality colleagues to develop, embed and sustain robust quality and clinical risk management systems across Hospital and Specialist Services.

A key focus of this role is leading and coordinating SAC 1 and SAC 2 adverse event reviews, ensuring reviews meet national event management methodology, legislative and professional standards, and appropriately reflect consumer and whānau voice. You will act as the subject matter expert for adverse event review processes, providing guidance, mentoring and training to lead reviewers across the organisation.

You will also analyse and triangulate complex patient safety and quality data from multiple sources, translate insights into improvement actions, contribute to organisational learning from harm, and support responses to external bodies such as the Health and Disability Commissioner, ACC, HQSC and Coroners.

This role sits at the intersection of clinical expertise, systems thinking and leadership, and is ideal for someone who enjoys strategic influence while remaining grounded in patient centred care.

About the Team/Service/ Location

Youll be part of the Patient Safety and Quality team at Hawkes Bay Fallen Soldier Memorial Hospital, working closely with clinical leaders, operational managers, Group Directors, Chief Nurse, Chief Midwife and multidisciplinary teams across the organisation. The service plays a critical role in driving organisation wide quality improvement, safety culture and compliance with national standards.

About you

Youre a respected, experienced clinician with strong analytical thinking and leadership capability.

You will have:

• Current registration with the Nursing Council or Midwifery Council of New Zealand and a valid APC.
• A postgraduate qualification in nursing, midwifery or a relevant field, with ongoing tertiary study plans.
• Extensive recent clinical experience, including involvement in patient safety, quality or risk management activities.
• A PDRP portfolio at proficient level or higher, with commitment to progress to expert.
• Demonstrated experience leading or contributing to adverse event reviews or quality improvement initiatives.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, including report writing and presenting complex information.
• Proven ability to influence, coach and build capability across multidisciplinary teams.
• Commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi, equity and culturally safe practice.

Desired:

• Formal training in quality improvement methodology.
• Adult teaching or education qualification.
• Experience in senior nursing or midwifery leadership roles.
