Clinical Nurse Specialist - CRISS at Health New Zealand - Te Whatu Ora Waitaha Canterbury, Christchurch

About the Role

The Cardio-Respiratory Integrated Specialist Services (CRISS) Advanced Lung Disease (ALD) team is a small, dynamic, and innovative team with an exciting opportunity for a Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) with a special interest in Respiratory Nursing to join the service.

As a positive role model in clinical leadership, you will work collaboratively with the CRISS ALD/CF CNS team, providing specialist advice, support, and education throughout the patient's disease trajectory. You will partner with a range of health professionals across the health sector to ensure high standards of care are maintained and to support improved patient outcomes.

In this role you will be responsible for:

  • Autonomously managing a case load of patients in the community, with Respiratory conditions such as COPD, Interstitial Lung Disease and Cystic Fibrosis
  • You will hold Nurse Led Clinics and participate in MDT clinics for CF
  • Delivering advanced nursing assessments, specialist cardio-respiratory advice, and long-term condition management
  • Providing clinical leadership, education, and support throughout the patient's journey
  • Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams across the health sector to deliver integrated, patient-centred care

About You

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Registered Nurse with a strong background in Respiratory who is passionate about delivering high-quality specialist care. You will have excellent clinical assessment, education, and communication skills, along with the ability to engage patients, whānau, and colleagues while providing expert nursing leadership.

You will be on the postgraduate pathway, having completed or be working towards a relevant postgraduate qualification. Experience in long-term condition management is desirable.

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • Extensive clinical experience and a comprehensive background in Respiratory Nursing
  • Advanced nursing assessment skills with the ability to provide specialist respiratory advice
  • Completed or be working towards a relevant postgraduate qualification
  • Experience in long-term condition management (desirable)
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
  • Excellent case management and time management skills
  • Strong computer literacy
  • A commitment to clinical leadership and promoting excellence in nursing practice
  • A passion for maintaining high standards of care and improving patient outcomes
  • Registration with the Nursing Council of New Zealand and a current Annual Practising Certificate (APC)
