Are you an Emergency Medicine specialist looking to broaden your experience while working in a high-performing tertiary Emergency Department?

We have an exciting 12-month fixed-term Fellowship opportunity to provide parental leave cover within the Emergency Department at Christchurch Hospital. This role offers the opportunity to further develop your clinical expertise, leadership, education, research or quality improvement interests while working alongside an experienced and supportive Emergency Medicine team.

Whether you're nearing the completion of your Emergency Medicine training or are an early-career consultant looking to gain additional Fellowship experience, this position provides an outstanding platform to enhance your career.

Mō te Tūranga | About the Role

As an Emergency Medicine Fellow, you'll join the dynamic team at Christchurch Hospital's Emergency Department, caring for more than 135,000 patients each year, with approximately 25% requiring hospital admission.

This Fellowship combines hands-on clinical practice with protected non-clinical time to pursue professional development aligned with your interests. You'll be supported by experienced Emergency Physicians and have opportunities to contribute to education, leadership, research, quality improvement and service development.

Areas of focus may include:

  • Hyperbaric and Dive Medicine
  • Ultrasound
  • Medical Education and Simulation
  • Research
  • Toxicology
  • Health Informatics
  • Geriatric Emergency Medicine
  • Palliative Care

This Fellowship is designed for doctors nearing completion of Emergency Medicine training or within the first five years following Fellowship, providing valuable experience during the transition to consultant practice.

Ngā pūkenga me ngā wheako | About You

To be successful in this role you will:

  • Be an advanced trainee nearing completion of Fellowship with the Australasian College for Emergency Medicine (post-written examination), or
  • Be within five years of attaining Fellowship in Emergency Medicine, or
  • Hold an equivalent overseas Emergency Medicine qualification and be eligible for vocational registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand
  • Demonstrate excellent clinical judgement and communication skills
  • Have an interest in education, research, leadership or service improvement
  • Enjoy working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team
