Senior Advisor Risk at Oranga Tamariki—Ministry for Children, Wellington

  • Be part of a trusted enterprise risk function, within the Risk and Assurance Team supporting better outcomes for tamariki and rangatahi
  • Influence decision-making across a large and complex organisation
  • Permanent, Wellington-based role with flexible working

The role provides independent and objective, risk advisory services to assist Oranga Tamariki management to deliver on its strategic priorities and meet its accountabilities. Working closely with our Senior Leadership Team and receive a high level of support in the functions we perform.

Mō te tūnga | About the role

This is an opportunity to be part of an exciting journey as the function focuses on uplifting the trust, credibility and value add it provides to stakeholders.

The Senior Advisor Risk is responsible for providing high quality tailored advice to managers and staff on all aspects of Oranga Tamariki risk activities. The Senior Advisor will facilitate risk workshops, support the design and delivery of risk training, support the planning and delivery of the risk management business plan, and support general risk reporting and advice.

Ngā pūmanawatanga ōu | What you will bring

  • Experience in risk management, governance, assurance, audit or a related discipline
  • A tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline
  • Ability to critically analyse and interpret complex information and make effective, well-reasoned decisions
  • Understanding of organisational risk management frameworks and risk reporting processes
  • An ability to work across competing priorities and deliver high-quality outcomes
  • Excellent attention to detail, both written and numerical, and commitment to quality
  • Excellent interpersonal skills - able to adapt these to suit the needs of the audience, able to influence others to accept ideas/strategies
  • Understanding and appreciation of cross-cultural practices in particular; knowledge of tikanga Māori, and Pacific peoples' culture.

Annual appointing remuneration for this Band 17 position starts between $106,416 and $117,782 dependant on experience, with annual tenure-based progression steps available above this range.
