The Information Request Service provides responses to requests for information received from members of the public, government agencies and other organisations made under the Official Information Act 1982, the Privacy Act 2020 and other legislation. The Official Information Act (OIA) creates a public right to access information held by government bodies, and the Privacy Act entitles individuals to access personal information held about them. Government bodies receiving requests under the OIA or the Privacy Act are required by law to respond no later than 20 working days after the request is received. The Information Request team processes over 55,000 requests every year, responding to 85% of all Police information requests received.

The Senior Advisor will be responsible for providing guidance, expert advice and high-level support to the Information Request Advisors and the wider Information Request team, its customers and stakeholders. The Senior Advisor contributes to continuous improvement, makes informed decisions to identify and mitigate all risks associated with the information request process, ensure accordance with relevant legislation, Police process and policies and contribute to Service Group priorities.

They are responsible for the coordinating, consideration and response to complaint investigations by the Office of the Ombudsman and the Office of the Privacy Commissioner.

Key Accountabilities:

 

  • Manage the receipt, processing, and completion of complex requests or high-risk matters that have been escalated for an Advisory or Senior Advisor review.
  • Manages Independent Police Conduct Authority enquiries, Ombudsman and Office of the Privacy Commissioner and any other agency complaints in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Keep abreast of changes in legislation and Police policies and recommend required changes in practices and procedures within the Information Request Service.
  • Understand privacy concerns and legislative changes to meet relevant statutory obligations where appropriate.
  • Demonstrates appropriate leadership, coaching, and mentoring practices to facilitate individual and team development.
  • Demonstrate a strong attention to detail and an ability to analyse information and draw appropriate conclusions in a timely manner.
  • Develop and maintain a wide range of positive and collaborative working relationships.
  • Demonstrate a high level of computer literacy.
  • Demonstrate a high level of resilience.
  • Demonstrate a high level of verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrate flexibility and being adaptive to changing priorities and demands

Utu ā-tau | Salary

 

This position is covered by a collective agreement and salary will commence between $111,529 and $118,184 dependent on skills and experience relevant to the role.
