Gain Qualifications while you work

You could be supported through a tertiary qualification by your workplace and study while you earn.

Learning State is the State sectors industry training organisation. Its job is to support employers in developing excellent State servants, helping make sure the State sector is an employer of choice for all New Zealanders.

Learning State staff are experts in workplace learning and assessment and are accredited by the Tertiary Education Commission to manage workplace learning and assessment arrangements for the State sector.

Learning State qualifications pick up where you left off at school and can take you as far as Stage 2 university level. They range from the specific (such as Police Forensic Photography) to the broad (like the National Diploma in Public Sector Maori or the National Diploma in Public Sector Services Leadership Development).

Learning State also administers Modern Apprenticeships, which are associated with occupations that employ younger people in the State sector, for example, Department of Conservation trainee rangers, or frontline customer service staff in the Ministry of Social Development.
